Cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation is a blend of exercise therapy, medical management and psychological support to assist the patient and family. Participants are monitored by nurses, respiratory therapists and exercise specialists. They also recieve consultations from a registered dietitian and pharmacist.

The program goals include education on how to control and decrease the risk factors of heart and lung disease and the development of safe, healthy exercise habits.

Exercise, education and encouragement are essential factors in recovering from a heart attack or heart surgery, or dealing with cardiovascular disease.

Phases of Cardiac Rehabilitation
  • Phase One (inpatient): Prepares the patient and family for transition from hospital to home and ambulation and education for heart and lung surgery patients.
  • Phase Two (immediate outpatient): Patient is on telementry monitoring. Ideally started within two to four weeks of discharge.
  • Phase Three/Four (maintenance outpatient): Determines the participant's ability to exercise safely and understand risk factor modification. Participants can continue this phase indefinitely. A spouse program is offered at a nominal fee so that the spouse can exercise with the patient.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation

This area of rehab is for patients with chronic lung diseases such as emphysema, recent lung surgery and bronchitis.

Our comprephensive program is individualized to provide each patient with the knowledge to manage symptoms and complications of respiratory conditions. Exercise sessions include oxygen availability and monitoring of oxygen saturation levels.
