CoxHealth Fitness Center Branson 101 Day Weight Loss Challenge winner walks away 44 pounds lighter. “Your body isn’t going to go where your mind doesn’t push it,” said Debbie Clarke, age 60, winner of the 101 Day Weight Loss Challenge, who lost 11 percent of her body fat. Clarke won a $500 shopping spree at Tanger Outlet Mall, a one year membership and 90 minute massage at CoxHealth Fitness Center Branson.
Her journey of weight loss began March 5, 2013, losing 2-3 pounds every two weeks at weigh in. She spent her weeks working out with the other participants and physical trainers. “The team was supportive and took an interest in you,” she said. “Everyone was there for the same reason.” Even when she came in last during activities, the team cheered her on, encouraging her.
“It was very difficult at first because I haven’t done anything for the last three years.” Several years ago Clarke was involved in a car accident that limited her mobility on her right side. This physical challenge made it difficult for her to make the commitment to the weight loss challenge, but she knew if she didn’t commit to losing the weight now, she never would.
At recent doctor visits Clarke learned that her blood pressure was not where it should be and she would need to start taking medication to maintain her blood pressure and cholesterol levels. When confronted with this information, Clarke realized it was time to take control of her body again. By the end of the challenge Clarke’s levels were back to normal. “Not perfect, but within sight,” she said.
“I feel a lot better physically, and I sleep better,” said Clarke, though that’s not the only change her body has encountered. Clarke craves healthier food now. When she goes out, she wants a Mango Salad. The fried food doesn’t taste as good to her now. She uses her juicer every morning for breakfast which she said is starting to rub off on her friends as well who are each buying one.
Clarke said the key is to maintain consistency in routine and keep a positive attitude. “I set goals and was strict about meeting them.” Now, when she goes shopping, she is buying a smaller size, just a little reminder that the work put forth has paid off. Though the challenge is over, her determination is not as Clarke continues to visit the Fitness Center consistently.
