Cox Medical Center Branson welcomes general surgeon, John Moll, MD to its list of skilled physicians. He attended medical school at the University of Missouri – Columbia. Most recently, Dr. Moll practiced in Cape Girardeau and was medical director of a free-standing breast care center. Following his residency, he served for five years on active duty in the Navy.
His time in the service included a year as the surgeon on board an aircraft carrier, a deployment to Haiti, and a tour in Iraq as a combat trauma surgeon for the Marines. He was later appointed to head the general surgery department at the Naval Hospital-Camp Lejeune.
The path that led Dr. Moll into medicine was unusual. He has worked as a firefighter, an electrician, and a railroad engineer. His undergraduate degree was in chemical engineering from the University of Missouri – Columbia. He worked in the petroleum industry a few years prior to starting medical school.
He describes his practice style as collaborative. “Decisions about care are arrived through a partnership between the doctor and patient,” explains Dr. Moll. “I provide the medical expertise about a given disease and its treatment and the patient contributes knowledge about his or her values, desires and expectations.”
When not at work, Dr. Moll focuses on his family. He enjoys boating and lake activities, backpacking and travel. He participates in short-term medical mission trips, most recently to Haiti in the immediate aftermath of the 2010 earthquake.
