New lab equipment at Cox Medical Center Branson means patients’ lab results are now being processed faster! The technology fills an entire room, which complements its lengthy name. It’s called the Beckman Coulter Power Processor Sample Handling System and Clinical Chemistry System.
This new lab equipment updates equipment that is eight years old. Now, there’s an electronic, automated assembly line that reads bar-coded tubes of blood, separates the blood cells from the plasma, carries the blood to the chemistry analyzers for testing and then returns the blood to a stockyard for storage. A technician monitors the entire process on computer screens.
This new system allows for most chemistry tests to be completed in less than an hour from the time the blood sample is received in the lab, allowing the physician the ability to access a patient’s diagnostics more quickly. The lab can process up to 300 samples per hour!
The new lab equipment will cost the hospital in excess of one million dollars over the next seven years. However, that investment will benefit Cox Branson in the years to come, and ensures Cox Medical Center Branson has the latest, most up-to-date lab procedures in place.
