The CoxHealth Fitness Center in Branson is hosting a series of events this summer that will have people hitting the surf and pounding the turf.
The inaugural Aquathon series combines both swimming and running into one race four times during the month of July. The Aquathon is set for Wednesday evenings starting July 9th and continuing each week through July 30th at Branson RecPlex.
According to CoxHealth Fitness Center Director Chris Thaller, the first race includes a one mile run followed by a 200 yard swim at the Branson AquaPlex. The second week’s event starts with the 200 yard swim followed by a one mile run. On the third week, participants will start with a one mile run, swim 200 yards and then finish the race with another run. The final week starts with swimming followed by a run and then capping with the last leg of the race, another 200 yard swim. Each race begins at 7:30 p.m.
This is the first time CoxHealth Fitness Center in Branson has hosted an aquathon, however the event isn’t entirely new to the Ozarks. Thaller said he first became familiar with aquathons in Springfield and loved the idea.
“This is to promote health and wellness in the Branson area,” Thaller said. “This provides something the whole family can do together. You don’t have to be a marathon runner or an Olympic gold medalist to do something like this.”
The cost is $25 per race or all four races are just $75. Participants will all receive a free Aquathon tank top. Participants who register before June 20 will receive their tank tops at the first race.
The event is open to anyone 8 years old or older. For more information or to register, call CoxHealth Fitness Center in Branson at 417-348-0060. Print a registration form.
